Thundr Bans and Coins: What Their Terms Actually Say

Thundr's terms are unusually blunt: bans are permanent, purchases are final, and the two combine badly. What to know before buying Coins.

Most chat platforms keep their ban policies vague. Thundr's terms of service are a strange exception: they are unusually specific, and what they specify is worth reading before you spend money there. We went through them in mid-2026 while researching our comparison page, and this post lays out the practical consequences. Disclosure, as ever: we run Glimr, a competing site, and every claim here comes from Thundr's own published terms, which you can read yourself.

What Thundr is, briefly

Thundr is a random video chat platform that markets itself as the largest in the world, claiming over a million daily users, with a live counter and the slogan "Vibe With Beautiful People" doing the front-of-house work. It is free to enter, 18 and over, moderated by what it describes as real-time AI, and it sells an in-app currency called Coins along with paid features its terms call "Enhancements."

The ban policy, in their words and ours

Three clauses matter. Bans are permanent. Previously banned users are not eligible to return. And nowhere in the terms is any appeal process described.

Read together, that is one of the strictest ban postures in the category. Most platforms at least gesture at review or expiry; plenty of bans elsewhere quietly lapse. Thundr's terms describe a one-strike door with no handle on the outside. Whether enforcement is always that absolute in practice, we cannot verify from outside, and the terms are what you agree to.

Where the Coins come in

Thundr's terms also state that purchases are final and non-refundable. Now combine the clauses: a permanent ban with no appeal, applied to an account holding a Coin balance, takes the balance with it. Money spent on Coins is money spent on an account that can be closed permanently, by an automated system, with no described path to argue about it.

That combination deserves more attention than either clause gets alone. AI moderation at scale makes mistakes; every platform's does, and we have written about how those mistakes happen on ours and everyone else's. On most sites a moderation mistake costs you access. On a site where you have prepaid for features, it costs you access and the unspent money, and the terms you agreed to say that is the end of the story.

The practical advice

If Thundr's format appeals to you, use the free tier freely; the risk analysis above only starts when you buy. If you do buy Coins, buy small and spend them promptly rather than banking a balance, and read the current terms yourself first, since platforms revise them and mid-2026 is the vintage of ours. Treat any prepaid balance on any strictly-moderated platform, this category or elsewhere, as spent the moment you pay.

And if you are reading this after a ban took your balance: we sympathize, and we will not pretend to be the loophole. We ban for the same core behavior every serious platform bans. What we can offer is structural rather than personal: Glimr has nothing for sale, so a moderation decision here can never cost anyone money. The free version is the entire product, which makes our worst-case mistake strictly smaller than a paid platform's.
